The What & How of It
Our Mission
MMI is committed to consciousness-raising about the unprecedented ways our nation is changing, combatting injustice in all its forms, and helping us transform ourselves into a society that works for all of us.
We believe that
inalienable rights are for all,
everyone has a line in the human story that only they can write,
each of us deserves to lead our best lives and be our most authentic selves,
only a society that works for all of us will work for any of us, and that
only by enlarging the tent -- by allowing everyone to participate in the forming of "a more perfect union" -- do we become "a nation that can endure".
Three core principles guide our work:
1. This is the defining moment where we either forge a way forward for all of us or accept that there’s no way forward for any of us,
2. We can't solve our problems using the same tactics that created them.
3. We're a nation that's reaching its crisis point; one that's every bit as consequential as the Civil War. Only this one will determine if democracy is still our future or just our past.
If it’s true that every system is perfectly structured to get the results it gets, then the only way to get different results is to change how the system itself works. We want to understand the economic, political and social drivers that make dysfunction work; which gives us insight into how to make it not work.
Five-step process for societal transformation
1. Consciousness-raising
2. Accountability-holding
3. Movement-building
4. Enfranchisement
5. Revolution
