Your Republic
1. Faith-based Activism for Democracy

Faiths United to Save Democracy is an interfaith, multi-generational coalition of ministers, attorneys and people of faith who believe that the right to vote is both sacred and the cornerstone of democracy. Yet, we’re living in a time when the historic Voting Rights Act has been weakened by a Supreme Court where Theocratic Christians are the supermajority, in a nation where the same group is a dwindling minority. Since the 2020 election, nearly 400 voter restriction measures in 48 states have been proposed or passed, making it even harder for ethnic communities, the elderly and the poor to vote.
Based on the shared belief that every person is created in the image of God, “Imago Dei”, the campaign provides a theological rationale for inclusive political action, makes saving democracy a moral imperative and builds on the same faith infrastructure that gave power and sustenance to the Civil Rights movement; uniting anyone and everyone who claims to be for humanity into a single “Beloved Community”. Essentially what Martin Luther King, John Lewis, Bayard Rustin and so many other activists of that era did.
Specifically, the campaign intends to equip inter-generational Black, Latino, and Asian clergy together with Muslim and Jewish congregations with tools and resources to neutralize or defeat voter restrictions and suppression at the state level, while, at the same time, issuing a special call to white-identifying faith leaders of conscience to join the effort. The campaign also educates clergy and multi-faith leaders on national voting rights legislation (For the People Act and John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act), along with other ways we can not only restore previous levels of voting access, but truly become a democracy – a land governed by ALL the people – for the first time.
